14-Year-Old Student Stabs Teacher in France

(MENAFN) A teacher at a southern France school sustained life-threatening injuries Tuesday following a stabbing attack by a 14-year-old student.

"A teacher was the victim of a knife attack at a middle school in (the town of) Sanary-sur-Mer," Education Minister Edouard Geffray wrote on the US social media company X's platform.

The 60-year-old art instructor suffered a chest wound inflicted by the pupil during class as approximately 20 fellow students witnessed the assault at La Guicharde secondary school, media outlets reported, citing local authorities.

Toulon's public prosecutor Raphael Balland said that so far, all they know is that there had been tensions with this teacher recently and the student was angry with her.

School officials ordered a complete evacuation immediately following the incident, while Wednesday's classes were canceled, according to reports.

"My thoughts immediately go to the victim, her family and the entire educational community, whose deep shock I share," Geffray said.
